My career story

From writing my first “novel” in the 3rd grade about a girl scout in pigtails saving the Rainforest, I’ve harbored a lifelong passion for telling stories that empower others. Throughout my career I’ve taken this passion with me, from personal projects to teaching writing skills to middle schoolers, to brand copy and content writing, and finally, to the world of internal communications.

I dove headfirst into my first copy gig at Cost Plus World Market. After four short months, I was promoted to Lead Copywriter, to mentor and train the other eight writers on the team and edit their copy on top of my own writing assignments.

I brought that same enthusiasm to See’s Candies, where I joined as a Senior Copywriter and later led the copy and design studio as Creative Manager. Growing and mentoring my team, overseeing design, copy, and branding decisions—while continuing to direct and write the voice of See’s—fortified me with invaluable experiences in leadership, branding, customer experience, internal communications, and storytelling.

During the pandemic, I connected with Forshay Consulting and landed a role as an Internal Communications Writer for their client, Levi Strauss & Company. Over the next four months I deepened my internal communications experience, helping this small but mighty comms team to plan, develop and write comms across all channels for the global LS&Co. People & Culture team.

In January 2021, my team at LS&Co. invited me to come on full-time and take the lead on core campaigns from Open Enrollment and the annual Run for Red Tab fundraiser, as well as new activations such as our first-ever Diversity, Equity & Inclusion training, a month-long Development Days offering, and the phenomenal RISE women’s summit, along with many other activities, benefits, and opportunities for LS&Co. employees. Our team went through extreme change and transition over the next year, including four different managers, a shift from People & Culture to the DE&I team, and more work than a team twice our size should be managing. But we went above and beyond to make sure it all got done successfully. Through this intensive experience, I’ve honed my skills in project management, change management communications, and executive presentations as well as my ability to innovate under extreme pressure and thrive in ambiguity.

The scope of my role now includes managing all internal Benefits and Recognition communications campaigns, as well as owning the company’s Annual Awards. Beyond communications, I am responsible for the $300k budget, adjustments and improvements to the program process, and a highly visible virtual event that reaches over 15,000 employees around the globe. My professional growth has been exponential in this role, and my time on this team has been invaluable to my confidence, my leadership abilities, and my drive to act with intention—leading me to the search for a new, better fit for the next step in my career.
